About Coconut Milk

A rich plant milk squeezed from coconut flesh, high in saturated fat.

Health Benefits of Coconut Milk

High calories from coconut oil fat

Canned full-fat coconut milk is about 230 kcal per 100ml, mostly from the saturated fat (~24g) in coconut flesh. It's rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which the body metabolises differently, breaking down more readily for energy. But the calorie density is high, so portion control matters.

Cooking vs drinking versions differ

Drinking coconut milk (the beverage) is a diluted version of canned milk, far lower in calories (~30-50 kcal per 100ml). Use canned full-fat for curries, stews and desserts; choose the diluted type for drinking. Swapping cream for coconut milk makes fine dairy-free dishes.
