About Beer
A common low-alcohol fermented brew, mainly from barley malt and hops.
Health Benefits of Beer
Calories come mostly from alcohol and carbs
Regular beer is ~43 kcal per 100ml, mostly from alcohol and residual carbohydrate. A 500ml bottle is about 215 kcal, roughly a small bowl of rice (~150g cooked). The nickname 'liquid bread' is no accident - it adds up fast when drunk in quantity.
Drink in moderation
Beer holds small amounts of B vitamins (from brewer's yeast) and silicon, but not enough to matter nutritionally. The alcohol is metabolised by the liver; excess raises liver strain and belly fat ('beer belly'). Keep it to no more than about one can (330-500ml) a day.
