About White Mushroom

The common button/white mushroom (fresh); the most widely grown edible fungus, crisp and mild.

Health Benefits of White Mushroom

The world's No.1 consumed mushroom

Fresh button mushroom (双孢蘑菇) has ~2.9g protein and only 22 kcal per 100g. It's the most commercially cultivated edible fungus, over 30% of world production. Depending on harvest stage it comes as white button (closed cup), brown cremini (half-open) and portobello (fully open, large) - the latter two have more flavour.

The 'kou-mo' name confusion

The common white button mushroom is often mistakenly called 'kou-mo' in markets - but the real kou-mo is the wild Inner Mongolia white mushroom, a different species. Button mushrooms are heavily cultivated, cheap and widespread - stir-fry sliced, in soup, roasted or as filling; its meaty texture and mild taste make it the gateway mushroom.
