About Glutinous Rice
A type of glutinous rice, very sticky, used for zongzi, rice cakes and other traditional foods.
Health Benefits of Glutinous Rice
Very high carbohydrate density
100g of jiang-mi (sticky/glutinous rice) has 77.5g carbs, 7.8g protein and only 1g fat - among the highest-carb grains. Its high amylopectin content makes it very sticky and dense when cooked, the base for zongzi, rice cakes and tangyuan.
Filling but easy to overeat
Glutinous rice digests more slowly, giving lasting satiety, but avoid large portions. Aim for 1-2 zongzi or a small bowl, and pair with vegetables and protein to balance the meal; chew thoroughly, especially for the elderly and children.
