About Red Wine
A low-alcohol wine made from fermented grapes, with small amounts of polyphenols.
Health Benefits of Red Wine
Resveratrol and antioxidants
Red wine is ~85 kcal per 100ml. It contains polyphenols including resveratrol, leached from grape skins during fermentation. These are antioxidant, but the actual resveratrol in a glass (150ml) is very limited (~1-2mg) - not enough to justify drinking it as a 'health supplement'.
Calorie control
A glass of wine (150ml) is ~130 kcal; two approach a bowl of rice. Moderation (max one glass a day) is the key - beyond that, alcohol's harms outweigh any polyphenol benefit.
