About Rice Roll
A Guandong dish of steamed rice-noodle rolls; silky with moderate calories.
Health Benefits of Rice Roll
A low-fat staple made from steamed rice batter
Plain (unfilled) cheung fun is ~110 kcal per 100g, made mainly from rice batter with only a thin oil film on the tray to prevent sticking - very low in fat. A common plain serving (~200g) is about 220 kcal; calories rise with added filling like beef, shrimp or char siu.
The sauce is the hidden calorie key
Cheung fun itself is light, but the topping soy, sweet sauce, sesame paste and chilli oil push it up. A beef version with standard soy is about 300-350 kcal. Lighten it by cutting the sweet sauce and sesame paste, and choose steamed rather than pan-fried rolls.
