About Chili Oil
A cooking oil infused with dried chillies; almost pure fat.
Health Benefits of Chili Oil
Nearly pure-fat condiment
Chilli oil is ~900 kcal per 100g, basically all oil (99%). Its heat comes from capsaicin. Capsaicin may slightly raise metabolism, but nowhere near enough to offset the oil's calories.
Portion-control tricks
Use a few drops to a small spoon (about 5g ≈ 45 kcal), dipping with the tip of a chopstick rather than pouring from the bottle. Homemade chilli oil with a high smoke-point oil (peanut or rapeseed), plus Sichuan pepper, star anise and bay leaf, poured onto dried chilli when the oil hits about 150℃, wakes the aroma without scorching it.
