About Orange
Refreshing fruit; a good reference for daily fruit intake.
Health Benefits of Orange
A benchmark source of vitamin C
Oranges are among the best-known vitamin-C fruits - ~30-50mg per 100g, so one medium orange meets 60-80% of an adult's daily recommendation. Vitamin C is water-soluble, supports collagen and iron absorption, and can't be made by the body - it must come from food.
Citrus plant compounds
Besides C, oranges carry hesperidin and naringin (citrus flavonoids), concentrated in the peel and the white pith. Eating mostly the flesh but leaving a little white pith gets extra fibre and flavonoids.
A winter in-season fruit
Oranges are among the most common Chinese winter fruit, best from November to March. In-season oranges are plump, juicy and sweet-sour, keeping weeks at room temperature. Eating the whole fruit keeps all the fibre and is lower-calorie than juice (a 250ml glass of pure OJ ~110 kcal vs one orange ~90 kcal).
