Blood Type Inheritance Table
| Parents’ blood types | Possible | Impossible |

| A × A | A, O | B, AB |
| A × B | A, B, AB, O | None |
| A × AB | A, B, AB | O |
| A × O | A, O | B, AB |
| B × B | B, O | A, AB |
| B × AB | A, B, AB | O |
| B × O | B, O | A, AB |
| AB × AB | A, B, AB | O |
| AB × O | A, B | AB, O |
| O × O | O | A, B, AB |
How to Use
Based on ABO blood type inheritance, this tool estimates the possible blood types of a child from the parents’ types. The result shows the possibilities for common inheritance combinations; the actual blood type should be confirmed by a medical test. To learn more about a child’s growth reference, use the child height predictor.
FAQ
What blood types are in the ABO system?
The ABO system has four types: A, B, AB and O. Blood type is determined by antigens on the surface of red blood cells: type A has the A antigen, type B has the B antigen, type AB has both, and type O has neither. This tool predicts a child’s possible blood types from ABO inheritance rules.
How do the parents’ blood types determine the child’s?
Everyone carries two blood type alleles (one from each parent). A and B are dominant, while O is recessive. For example, if the parents are AO and BO, the child may be A, B, AB or O. Based on ABO inheritance, this tool lists all possible and impossible blood types.
Is the result accurate?
ABO inheritance follows Mendel’s laws and is accurate in the vast majority of cases. In rare cases involving gene mutation or chimerism, the classic rules may have exceptions, and a medical test should be used as the standard.
What is the Rh blood type?
The Rh blood type is a separate classification from the ABO system, determined by the RhD antigen. Rh-positive (+) blood carries the RhD antigen; Rh-negative (-) does not. Rh-negative is very rare in Asian populations (about 0.3%), and Rh type is medically important in transfusion and pregnancy.
