What is a weekday lookup?
A weekday lookup works out which day from Monday to Sunday a given Gregorian date falls on. Because a common year has 365 days (52 weeks plus 1 day) and a leap year 366 days (52 weeks plus 2 days), the weekday of a fixed date shifts forward each year, so it always has to be calculated. This tool gives you the answer for any date instantly, and can also list the weekday of every day in a range for calendar planning.
How to use
Enter any date to see its weekday, or use the batch mode for a date range (up to 366 days). To count working days instead, try theworkday calculator.
Weekday lookup FAQ
How do I find the day of the week for a date?
Type or pick a date in the date field and press "Look up" to see which day of the week it falls on. Both past and future dates are supported, so you are not limited to days that have already happened.
Can I look up several dates at once?
Yes. In the batch section choose a start and an end date (up to 366 days apart) and press "Batch lookup" to list the weekday of every day in that range — handy for reviewing a whole month or a period spanning several months.
Is the weekday of a date fixed? Does the same date fall on the same weekday every year?
No. In the Gregorian calendar the weekday of a given date shifts every year: a common year has 365 days (52 weeks plus 1 day) and a leap year 366 days (52 weeks plus 2 days), so the weekday moves forward by one day, or by two after a leap year.
Is the result accurate for dates before 1582?
This tool calculates with the modern Gregorian calendar, so dates before 1582 are theoretical values extrapolated backwards. Countries adopted the calendar at different times, so historical dates can differ depending on when the switch happened.
