Workday calculation FAQ
How are workdays counted? Are weekends and holidays excluded automatically?
The calculator classifies each date by priority: workday-in-lieu > statutory holiday > weekend > ordinary workday. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded, statutory holidays are excluded too (without double counting), and workdays-in-lieu are counted as workdays.
What is the difference between workdays and paydays?
Workdays are the days you actually have to work (weekends and holidays excluded, workdays-in-lieu included). Paydays add back the paid statutory holidays on top of that — for example the three statutory National Day holidays are not worked but are still paid, so paydays suit HR attendance scenarios better.
How do I find the date that is N workdays after a given day?
Use the "Workdays → date" mode: enter a start date and the number of workdays required, and the tool steps through the calendar skipping weekends and holidays to give the end date — ideal for project scheduling and contract expiry dates.
How many workdays are there in a year?
It varies by year: roughly 250 in a common year and 251 in a leap year, including days swapped in lieu. The monthly breakdown is in the annual table at the bottom of the page, listing workdays and paydays per month.
